Ce titre fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 l\u2019image l\u00e9gendaire de N\u00e9ron qui, en juillet 64 s\u2019\u00e9merveillant devant le spectacle de Rome en feu, aurait jou\u00e9 de la lyre pour ajouter \u00e0 la f\u00e9erie du moment. C\u2019est que l\u2019\u00e9crivain vit dans un autre monde en grand p\u00e9ril, sans que rien ne semble pouvoir arr\u00eater sa course vers l\u2019ab\u00eeme.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/FAYE-3-225x300.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3009\" srcset=\"http:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/FAYE-3-225x300.png 225w, http:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/FAYE-3-768x1025.png 768w, http:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/FAYE-3.png 796w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On n\u2019y joue plus de la lyre, mais l\u2019on ne cesse d\u2019y succomber au divertissement, pris dans l\u2019acception pascalienne du terme&nbsp;: une fa\u00e7on de d\u00e9tourner le regard du tragique de la condition humaine. Ainsi face au d\u00e9sastre en marche -multiplication des guerres, toute-puissance du num\u00e9rique, bouleversement climatique, dirigeants d\u00e9ments- des habitants de cette plan\u00e8te ont cr\u00e9\u00e9 un \u00e9tablissement de soins d\u2019un genre un peu particulier. L\u2019on y apprend en effet comment vivre en dehors de l\u2019\u00e9poque. Le texte d\u2019ouverture du volume s\u2019intitule tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>Nous jouons de la lyre pendant que Rome br\u00fble<\/em><\/strong>.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>\u00bb Il succ\u00e8de \u00e0 deux citations plac\u00e9es en \u00e9pigraphe. L\u2019une de Claude Simon, l\u2019autre d\u2019Alphonse de Lamartine. La premi\u00e8re sur l\u2019absurde comme preuve de la croyance en une raison (\u00ab&nbsp;<em>L\u2019absurde se d\u00e9truit lui-m\u00eame<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb). La seconde sur l\u2019aveuglement devant la catastrophe (\u00ab&nbsp;<em>Honte \u00e0 qui peut chanter pendant que Rome br\u00fble<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb). &nbsp;Dans le \u00ab&nbsp;<em>Pavillon du bout du monde<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, fond\u00e9 il y a trente-quatre ans par le professeur Lehmann, sorte de r\u00e9plique contemporaine du sanatorium hors du temps du Berghof dans \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>La montagne magique<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb, l\u2019on suit une v\u00e9ritable cure de d\u00e9sintoxication \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque. La r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 Thomas Mann est clairement sugg\u00e9r\u00e9e par l\u2019allusion du narrateur aux \u00ab&nbsp;<em>pensionnaires germanophones<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb d\u00e9sirant gu\u00e9rir de leur \u00ab&nbsp;<em>Weltschmerz<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, ce d\u00e9sarroi face \u00e0 la mis\u00e8re du monde et de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce humaine. <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ce texte liminaire, pour lequel on h\u00e9site entre utopie et dystopie<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">D\u00e8s l\u2019arriv\u00e9e dans ce lieu \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cart de tout l\u2019on se trouve donc soumis \u00e0 un rigoureux sevrage&nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;<em>internet, t\u00e9l\u00e9phone, radio, t\u00e9l\u00e9vision et presse \u00e9crite, livres r\u00e9cents, sans parler de la rumeur publique, du bouche-\u00e0-oreille ou de l\u2019ou\u00ef-dire<\/em>.&nbsp;\u00bb&nbsp; Unique signe visible de la persistance d\u2019un univers au-del\u00e0 des murs d\u2019enceinte de l\u2019immense domaine, les train\u00e9es de condensation laiss\u00e9es par les avions. \u00c9ric Faye \u00e9voque non sans humour cette mani\u00e8re d\u2019\u00eelot r\u00e9serv\u00e9 \u00e0 un public fortun\u00e9, un bracelet \u00e9lectronique en permanence au bras pour garder de la tentation de \u00ab&nbsp;<em>retourner en pays de souffrance<\/em>.&nbsp;\u00bb &nbsp;A cela se mesure l\u2019absurde de la situation. Au fil des quarante-cinq pages de ce texte liminaire, pour lequel on h\u00e9site entre utopie et dystopie, c\u2019est tout le talent d\u2019un auteur coutumier du brouillage entre r\u00e9alisme et fantastique qui se d\u00e9ploie. Avec, de plus en plus pr\u00e9gnante \u00e0 mesure que le temps passe, la dimension sociale constitutive de l\u2019\u00eatre humain. Fuir la d\u00e9r\u00e9liction ambiante n\u2019appara\u00eet pas comme une solution tenable \u00e0 long terme. Comme se lib\u00e9rer des contraintes de l\u2019\u00e9poque ne pr\u00e9munit pas contre d\u2019autres suj\u00e9tions. Dans ce qui ressemble \u00e0 un authentique conte moral, y compris par la qualit\u00e9 et la richesse de la narration, \u00c9ric Faye confirme sa haute stature dans le champ litt\u00e9raire.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>La beaut\u00e9 picturale de ce texte agit telle une pressante invite \u00e0 la r\u00e9flexion<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On imagine le texte qui suit, sobrement intitul\u00e9 \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>Matin\u00e9e de printemps sur le boulevard<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb, inspir\u00e9 des ambiances impressionnistes de rues parisiennes \u00e0 la Camille Pissaro ou \u00e0 la Gustave Caillebotte. &nbsp;L\u2019on y voit, prise en 1838 d\u2019une fen\u00eatre dans les \u00e9tages hauts, une repr\u00e9sentation du boulevard du Temple. En fait l\u2019une des toutes premi\u00e8res photos d\u2019un certain Louis-Jacques Mand\u00e9 Daguerre. Contrastant avec le parfait rendu de ce paysage urbain, une minuscule zone de flou. C\u2019est que Louis-Jacques Mand\u00e9 s\u2019y est repris \u00e0 plusieurs fois pour r\u00e9aliser son clich\u00e9, changeant ses plaques mais conservant le m\u00eame angle de vue. La petite tache qui s\u2019est form\u00e9e, c\u2019est un homme&nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;<em>Pour la toute premi\u00e8re fois, des humains apparaissent sur une photo de rue, sans qu\u2019il y ait eu intention de les montrer<\/em>.&nbsp;\u00bb Pour \u00c9ric Faye une fa\u00e7on tout \u00e0 fait involontaire de mettre en image la relation du permanent et de l\u2019\u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re. La beaut\u00e9 litt\u00e9ralement picturale de ce texte agit en l\u2019esp\u00e8ce telle une pressante invite \u00e0 la r\u00e9flexion. Creusant d\u2019une autre fa\u00e7on la question du sens de la pr\u00e9sence humaine \u00e0 travers le temps. &nbsp;En de multiples variations cette interrogation irrigue l\u2019ensemble du volume. A quoi il convient d\u2019ajouter la pr\u00e9dilection chez l\u2019\u00e9crivain pour les l\u00e9gers <em>boug\u00e9s<\/em>. Les train\u00e9es de condensation qui peu \u00e0 peu disparaissent du ciel, le personnage indistinct enregistr\u00e9 sur la plaque. Ailleurs le passage insensible de la vie \u00e0 la mort et l\u2019exp\u00e9rience des m\u00eames tracas administratifs dans l\u2019au-del\u00e0 telle une r\u00e9p\u00e9tition \u00e0 l\u2019infini, de curieux appels t\u00e9l\u00e9phoniques venant de l\u2019\u00e9ther \u00e0 un psychanalyste, les patients d\u2019un m\u00e9decin qui se trouvent tous frapp\u00e9s d\u2019une curieuse langueur, un \u00eatre qui se r\u00e9veille ligot\u00e9 \u00e0 son double, un pr\u00eatre en train de dire la messe qui s\u2019arr\u00eate et r\u00e9p\u00e8te en boucle les m\u00eames paroles \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on d\u2019un robot soudain d\u00e9r\u00e8gl\u00e9, comme une inattendue proximit\u00e9 de la m\u00e9taphysique et de la technique.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On se rappelle que Kafka, lisant ses textes devant des auditoires pragois, suscitait des vagues de fou rire. M\u00eame si ensuite leur r\u00e9ception a pench\u00e9 du c\u00f4t\u00e9 angoissant et tortur\u00e9 des choses. Peut-\u00eatre parce que l\u2019humour et le tragique \u00e9taient au fond indissociables. Toutes proportions gard\u00e9es il se passe quelque chose du m\u00eame ordre dans les textes d\u2019\u00c9ric Faye.
