N\u00e9e en 1960,celle-ci s\u2019\u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 fait remarquer comme novelliste de talent, apr\u00e8s un premier recueil, \u00ab\u00a0<em>Selon elles<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb paru en 2010 chez Silo\u00e9, suivi de deux autres volumes, \u00ab\u00a0<em>L\u2019Empouse\u2026et autres \u00e9carts<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb (2015) et \u00ab\u00a0<em>Vent de boulet<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb (2016), tous deux publi\u00e9s chez Paul &amp; Mike. \u00ab\u00a0<em>Le Bruit des hommes<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb est son premier roman. Il fait revivre une figure aujourd\u2019hui quelque peu oubli\u00e9e de l\u2019art brut, l\u2019abb\u00e9 Adolphe Four\u00e9 (1839-1910) surnomm\u00e9 en son temps le \u00ab\u00a0<em>Facteur Cheval breton<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb. On lui doit en effet les rochers sculpt\u00e9s de Roth\u00e9neuf, plus de trois cents statues, depuis lors passablement\u00a0 d\u00e9grad\u00e9es par l\u2019\u00e9rosion marine, sur des falaises proches de Saint-Malo<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"431\" height=\"689\" src=\"http:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DUBIN.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DUBIN.jpg 431w, https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/DUBIN-188x300.jpg 188w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 431px) 100vw, 431px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">L\u2019on comprend mieux l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat de Sylvie Dubin pour ce personnage &nbsp;fantasque \u00e0 l\u2019inspiration h\u00e9t\u00e9roclite en observant sa propre dilection pour l\u2019\u00e9trange et le fantastique, notamment dans les quatorze nouvelles de \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>L\u2019Empouse<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au spectre de la mythologie grecque. Au c\u00f4t\u00e9 du pr\u00eatre se tient ici sa servante Marie Lefranc, mentionn\u00e9e sans davantage de d\u00e9tails dans les documents d\u2019\u00e9poque. Mais qui sous la plume de l\u2019autrice acquiert une v\u00e9ritable \u00e9paisseur humaine et une stature romanesque, en quasi <em>alter ego<\/em> de l\u2019eccl\u00e9siastique artiste. Une mani\u00e8re de c\u0153ur simple confront\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019univers d\u2019un personnage tourment\u00e9, gu\u00e8re en odeur de saintet\u00e9 aupr\u00e8s de sa hi\u00e9rarchie, dont Sylvie Dubin restitue le parcours chaotique. Des affaires tragiques qui touch\u00e8rent de pr\u00e8s sa famille&nbsp;; sa mise \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cart, v\u00e9cue comme un bannissement, des fonctions eccl\u00e9siastiques. Le roman se nourrit en effet d\u2019un rigoureux travail de documentation, sur&nbsp; lequel viennent s\u2019enter les imaginations de celle qui \u00e9crit. La d\u00e9couverte d\u2019archives in\u00e9dites agissant en l\u2019esp\u00e8ce comme un puissant stimulant de l\u2019\u00e9criture. Un r\u00e9cit particuli\u00e8rement \u00e9mouvant et captivant en r\u00e9sulte. Portrait double, d\u2019un religieux artiste hant\u00e9 par la question du mal, qui en m\u00eame temps vit son catholicisme de fa\u00e7on tr\u00e8s libre et personnelle, et d\u2019une femme rest\u00e9e c\u00e9libataire qui transpose sur l\u2019abb\u00e9 des \u00e9motions de plus en plus parlantes, sans pour autant perdre son sens profond des r\u00e9alit\u00e9s. Elle \u00e9tait entr\u00e9e \u00e0 son service en 1901, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de cinquante ans, apr\u00e8s un demi-si\u00e8cle de discret labeur, de pertes et d\u00e9ceptions en tous genres. Entre les deux, sans jamais basculer au-del\u00e0 des convenances, une histoire se noue, dont Sylvie Dubin sugg\u00e8re magnifiquement l\u2019intensit\u00e9 tout autant que la retenue. Il faudra attendre l\u2019approche de la mort de l\u2019abb\u00e9 pour que celle-ci se rel\u00e2che, du moins dans la parole et de discrets petits gestes. <br><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>C\u2019est non seulement la Bretagne, mais aussi la France de la Belle Epoque, avec ses lumi\u00e8res et ses ombres, que l\u2019autrice reconstitue<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sur la falaise, assez vite devenue un haut lieu de curiosit\u00e9 touristique, Adolphe Four\u00e9 faisait surgir de la roche de curieuses figures, en lesquelles se donnaient \u00e0 voir les cauchemars qui le hantaient (\u00ab&nbsp;<em>Je ne suis dou\u00e9 que pour la laideur, je ne r\u00e9ussis que les monstres<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb). C\u2019\u00e9tait \u00e0 coup de burin et de ciseau que cette \u00e2me tortur\u00e9e quinze ans durant tenta de s\u2019en lib\u00e9rer. Le v\u00e9ritable monument de l\u2019art brut, que ce n\u00e9ophyte sans la moindre culture artistique faisait ainsi advenir, se pr\u00e9sentait aux yeux de la servante au solide bon sens telle une restitution de tourments intimes qu\u2019elle avait peu \u00e0 peu appris \u00e0 identifier&nbsp;: <em>\u00ab&nbsp;Sur la falaise, il substituait \u00e0 la torture morale une souffrance physique&nbsp;; en suant sang et eau, le bourreau de soi-m\u00eame fatiguait son corps dans l\u2019espoir de soulager son \u00e2me. Il avait pli\u00e9 les \u00e9chines de pierre \u00e0 son cauchemar, dont les simulacres align\u00e9s constituaient d\u00e9sormais une g\u00e9ographie contr\u00f4lable<\/em>.&nbsp;\u00bb C\u2019est de tout cela que Sylvie Dupin saisit le sens, en d\u00e9cryptant la singularit\u00e9 de cette \u0153uvre qui donna \u00e0 la commune de Roth\u00e9neuf, jusque l\u00e0 tourn\u00e9e vers la mer, ses beaut\u00e9s et plus encore ses drames \u00e0 r\u00e9p\u00e9tition, une aura tout \u00e0 fait inattendue. Certains jours \u00e0 la belle saison, le tramway local ne d\u00e9semplissait pas. L\u2019abb\u00e9 \u00e0 la foi quelque peu h\u00e9t\u00e9rodoxe ne d\u00e9daignait pas alors s\u2019inscrire dans les pas des marchands du temple en monnayant la visite de son \u0153uvre sur les rochers. Pas forc\u00e9ment d\u2019ailleurs pour une admiration sans borne. Un critique d\u2019art tiendra ce travail pour \u00ab&nbsp;<em>une scandaleuse horreur, plus laid que les f\u00e9tiches congolais<\/em>.&nbsp;\u00bb Au fil de ces pages, c\u2019est non seulement la Bretagne, mais aussi la France de la Belle Epoque, avec ses lumi\u00e8res et ses ombres, que l\u2019autrice en effet reconstitue.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Il ne fait pas de doute que la richesse d\u2019\u00e9criture, la rigueur documentaire et la d\u00e9licatesse m\u00eal\u00e9e d\u2019ironie de ce roman, provoquent un plaisir de lecture qui tout du long ne se d\u00e9ment pas.
