Parce qu\u2019il y est question de litt\u00e9rature en train de s\u2019\u00e9crire. Parce qu\u2019en son centre se tient un&nbsp; personnage d\u2019\u00e9crivain incroyablement vivant. Parce que celui qui aujourd\u2019hui \u00e9crit fait lui-m\u00eame preuve d\u2019une belle inventivit\u00e9. Parce qu\u2019enfin l\u2019on voit litt\u00e9ralement resurgir des pages du roman de 2024 l\u2019un des chefs d\u2019\u0153uvre de la litt\u00e9rature fran\u00e7aise paru 168 ans plus t\u00f4t, en 1856<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"506\" height=\"728\" src=\"https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/GUS.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1747\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/GUS.jpg 506w, https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/GUS-209x300.jpg 209w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 506px) 100vw, 506px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cet \u00e9crivain et ce chef d\u2019\u0153uvre, ce sont Gustave Flaubert et sa \u00ab<em>&nbsp;<strong>Madame Bovary<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, dont Eric Laurrent r\u00e9ussit l\u2019incroyable tour de force de restituer l\u2019engendrement tout en produisant une totale impression de nouveaut\u00e9. S\u2019il n\u2019est \u00e9videmment pas le premier \u00e0 se confronter \u00e0 ce qui constitue un v\u00e9ritable monument, il est \u00e0 coup s\u00fbr celui dont le texte maitrise le plus souverainement la d\u00e9licate articulation entre r\u00e9cit biographique, histoire litt\u00e9raire et inventivit\u00e9 romanesque. Jamais au long de ses 400 pages l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat ne faiblit, l\u2019attention ne se rel\u00e2che. Et c\u2019est \u00e0 regret qu\u2019on doit quitter cette \u0153uvre, qui en restitue une autre sans pour autant se dissoudre dans son ombre port\u00e9e. Quand le premier chapitre de \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>Madame Bovary<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb est paradoxalement consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019autre personnage du roman, Charles, le mari (\u00ab&nbsp;<em>Nous \u00e9tions \u00e0 l\u2019Etude, quand le Proviseur entra, suivi d\u2019un nouveau habill\u00e9 en bourgeois\u2026<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb), dont Antoine Billot en 1991 dans \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>Monsieur Bovary<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb (Gallimard) donnait droit au point de vue, prolongeant en quelque sorte l\u2019\u00e9lan narratif initial de Flaubert, le chapitre d\u2019ouverture d\u2019 \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>A l\u2019\u0153uvre<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb s\u2019attache pour sa part \u00e0 la description d\u2019un lieu, la maison et le jardin de Croisset en bordure de Seine, o\u00f9 se tiennent l\u2019\u00e9crivain, son fr\u00e8re Achille et leur m\u00e8re, alors qu\u2019au portillon sonne une certaine Louise. En ce 26 juin 1851 Flaubert est entr\u00e9 depuis six mois dans sa trenti\u00e8me ann\u00e9e. Il revient tout juste d\u2019un voyage de deux ans en Orient, apr\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e9chec de \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>La Tentation se Saint-Antoine<\/em>&nbsp;<\/strong>\u00bb en 1849. Eric Laurrent entame semblablement par un biais son r\u00e9cit tenu par un narrateur pareillement omniscient, avant que ne commence l\u2019action principale. Charles \u00e0 l\u2019Etude, Gustave dans le jardin de Croisset, aucun des deux n\u2019a encore rencontr\u00e9 Emma.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Eric Laurrent restitue, avec une stup\u00e9fiante maestria, un long et \u00e9puisant processus d\u2019\u00e9criture<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quelques semaines plus tard, en septembre 1851, sur les conseils de Louis Bouilhet et Maxime Du Camp, Flaubert choisit un fait divers comme sujet d\u2019un livre qu\u2019il veut radicalement diff\u00e9rent. Dans son d\u00e9partement de la Seine-Inf\u00e9rieure, le r\u00e9cent suicide d\u2019un couple a fait grand bruit. L\u2019\u00e9crivain tient sa mati\u00e8re. Il lui faudra cinq ans pour mener \u00e0 bien son entreprise. Cette demi-d\u00e9cennie, Eric Laurrent en invente le r\u00e9cit, mettant en sc\u00e8ne un Flaubert gourmand de la vie et faisant na\u00eetre de sa plume une Emma Bovary gu\u00e8re moins d\u00e9sireuse d\u2019en go\u00fbter toutes les saveurs&nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;<em>Madame Bovary, c\u2019est moi<\/em>.&nbsp;\u00bb Mais surtout restituant, avec une stup\u00e9fiante maestria, un long et \u00e9puisant processus d\u2019\u00e9criture. Dans une optique r\u00e9solument moderne, qui s\u2019attache moins \u00e0 la psychologie qu\u2019\u00e0 ses effets visibles sur le comportement. D\u2019o\u00f9 les multiples sc\u00e8nes o\u00f9 l\u2019on voit Flaubert en action. Dans son bureau \u00e9videmment, mais aussi sa chambre, les salons litt\u00e9raires tel celui de la demi-mondaine Apollonie Sabatier, le jardin de Croisset, les rues du Paris de Louis-Philippe. Et quand on ne le voit pas, on le devine, par exemple quand il monte en galante compagnie&nbsp; dans un certains fiacre. L\u2019\u00e9pisode est ici r\u00e9invent\u00e9 par Eric Laurrent, qui \u00e9voque un grand plan de Rouen d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 sur le sol dans le bureau parisien de l\u2019\u00e9crivain, avec le trac\u00e9 d\u2019un parcours bien connu&nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;<em>\u00e0 l\u2019encre noire, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 trac\u00e9s des sortes d\u2019itin\u00e9raires<\/em>, <em>dont le point de d\u00e9part semble \u00eatre la cath\u00e9drale&nbsp;: l\u2019un fait le tour de la ville, un autre forme une boucle dans la campagne environnante, un autre encore se perd dans les faubourgs\u2026<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb Tout cela venu en droite ligne de \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>Madame Bovary<\/em><\/strong> \u00bb et de sa sc\u00e8ne fameuse. C\u2019est ici la litt\u00e9rature qui cr\u00e9e du r\u00e9el.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Et puis il y a cette phrase, recelant en elle-m\u00eame sa propre \u00e9nergie<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Et puis il y a cette langue et ce style qu\u2019Eric Laurrent s\u2019ing\u00e9nie \u00e0 restituer \u00e0 sa fa\u00e7on. Non pas en les imitant, mais en s\u2019essayant \u00e0 en faire rena\u00eetre l\u2019esprit. Ces descriptions exhaustives, dont on sait qu\u2019elles renvoient au-del\u00e0 d\u2019elles-m\u00eames. Ce souci de la pr\u00e9cision et de la raret\u00e9 lexicale, puisqu\u2019il s\u2019agit de ne pas perdre une seule miette de r\u00e9alit\u00e9. Des noms&nbsp;: bisca\u00efen, flexuosit\u00e9, tragus, scotie, canezou, \u00e9lectuaire, caloquet, tondo&#8230; Des qualificatifs&nbsp;: flave, effulgent, nitescent\u2026 Et par-dessus tout cette phrase qui avance \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on des rouleaux, par vagues successives emportant tout sur leur passage. Comme eux, recelant en elle-m\u00eame sa propre \u00e9nergie&nbsp;: la grande ambition de Flaubert. L\u2019\u00e9crivain fait ainsi resurgir un monde, un temps, une \u0153uvre. Gautier, Baudelaire, Musset, Leconte de Liste, Lamartine, Jules Janin traversent tour \u00e0 tour ses pages. Et contin\u00fbment Louise Colet. Ne manque ici que D\u00e9sir\u00e9 Nisard, le mal aim\u00e9 de l\u2019histoire litt\u00e9raire.
