Aujourd\u2019hui nous parvient \u00ab&nbsp;<em>Coyote<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, objet litt\u00e9raire original qui pourrait en d\u00e9router plus d\u2019un, tant il s\u2019\u00e9carte des pr\u00e9suppos\u00e9s du \u00ab&nbsp;pacte romanesque&nbsp;\u00bb&nbsp;: un narrateur certes, mais tenant le r\u00e9cit d\u2019une succession d\u00e9cousue de rencontres<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/PRUD-1-201x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2004\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/PRUD-1-201x300.jpg 201w, https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/PRUD-1-687x1024.jpg 687w, https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/PRUD-1.jpg 726w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Screenshot<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comment cependant ne pas penser, lisant ce \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>Coyote<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb, \u00e0 \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>Sur la route<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb de Jack Kerouac (1957) avec sa multiplicit\u00e9 de personnages dessinant le portrait d\u2019une g\u00e9n\u00e9ration&nbsp;? Sauf que ce qui ici se dessine, c\u2019est l\u2019univers de la peur et de l\u2019exclusion, repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 par le mur frontalier entre les Etats Unis et le Mexique que Donald Trump pr\u00e9tendit faire \u00e9riger durant son mandat, \u00e0 partir de 2017. Une barri\u00e8re pr\u00e9vue sur plus de 3000 kilom\u00e8tres. Sylvain Prudhomme, pour les besoins d\u2019un reportage, avait lui-m\u00eame long\u00e9 de part et d\u2019autre, le plus souvent en auto-stop, pendant deux semaines, 2500 kilom\u00e8tres de l\u2019ouvrage, de la Californie au Golfe du Mexique. Il s\u2019agissait pour lui \u00ab&nbsp;<em>de rencontrer des gens, de les photographier, de leur poser des questions sur leur <\/em>vie&nbsp;\u00bb. Il en avait rapport\u00e9 des notes, des photos Polaroids, et peut-\u00eatre plus encore une foule d\u2019impressions. Le reportage \u00e9tait paru, mais \u00ab&nbsp;<em>le besoin de raconter n\u2019\u00e9tait pas \u00e9puis\u00e9<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb. A cela s\u2019ajoutait le fait que \u00ab&nbsp;<em>l\u00e0-bas rien ne bougeait, que Trump revenait<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb. \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>Coyote<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb est n\u00e9 de cette conjonction de circonstances.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Le r\u00e9cit d\u2019une rencontre se construit ici sans les apanages traditionnels du r\u00e9cit<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sylvain Prudhomme y restitue trente-et-une rencontres qu\u2019il eut l\u2019occasion de faire sur cette route de tous les dangers. En \u00e9pigraphe il cite les deux sens du terme \u00ab&nbsp;coyote&nbsp;\u00bb dans la r\u00e9gion&nbsp;: d\u2019abord le \u00ab&nbsp;<em>mammif\u00e8re carnivore<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, mais aussi \u00ab&nbsp;<em>l\u2019individu qui se charge clandestinement, moyennant r\u00e9mun\u00e9ration, de faciliter un trajet<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb. Son livre pr\u00e9sente une division du parcours en cinq tron\u00e7ons d\u2019in\u00e9gales longueurs kilom\u00e9triques, depuis Tijuana, dans la baie de Californie, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 Matamoros dans l\u2019\u00e9tat mexicain du Tamaulipas. A chaque fois se donne \u00e0 lire le relev\u00e9 quasi st\u00e9nographique d\u2019une suite de notations, de bouts de dialogues, de phrases prises \u00e0 la vol\u00e9e. Souvent quelques mots. Puis l\u2019on passe \u00e0 la ligne pour un autre \u00e9nonc\u00e9 aussi bref. Les plus longues de ces \u00ab&nbsp;phrases&nbsp;\u00bb n\u2019exc\u00e9dent jamais plus de trois lignes. Le r\u00e9cit d\u2019une rencontre se construit ici sans les apanages traditionnels du r\u00e9cit. Et cependant beaucoup se dit. A la fin de chaque \u00ab&nbsp;chapitre&nbsp;\u00bb, en guise de signature, s\u2019affiche en noir et blanc le clich\u00e9 Polaroid des interlocuteurs qui prirent l\u2019\u00e9crivain en charge pour un bout de route.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>La richesse et le sens profond de cet impressionnant livre tiennent pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment \u00e0 sa conjugaison de prolixit\u00e9 et de lapidarit\u00e9<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Entre ces prises sur le vif Sylvain Prudhomme ins\u00e8re des textes de longueurs variables, \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re personne, qui tant\u00f4t pr\u00e9cisent des circonstances, tant\u00f4t compilent des extraits de presse, ou encore font r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 des souvenirs de films anciens et plus r\u00e9cents sur le sujet de la fronti\u00e8re, tel le \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>No Country for Old Men<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb des fr\u00e8res Coen, de livres noirs sur la ville tel le \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>2666<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb du Chilien Roberto Bolano (1953-2003), enfin font retour sur des moments marquants de l\u2019histoire conflictuelle entre les USA et le Mexique. Et puis, page 155, &nbsp;ce constat&nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;<em>Depuis dix jours que je voyage, je peux faire le compte&nbsp;: j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 pris en stop par 18 Mexicains, riches, pauvres, anglophones, hispanophones, ill\u00e9gaux, r\u00e9gularis\u00e9s, r\u00e9sidents, naturalis\u00e9s am\u00e9ricains. Je peux aussi faire le compte des Blancs qui m\u2019ont pris&nbsp;: 1<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb. La richesse et le sens profond de cet impressionnant livre tiennent pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment \u00e0 sa conjugaison de prolixit\u00e9 et de lapidarit\u00e9.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pr\u00e8s de soixante-dix ans apr\u00e8s Kerouac, qui portraiturait la \u00ab&nbsp;<em>Beat generation<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb de la c\u00f4te ouest avec son profil libertaire et contestataire, Sylvain Prudhomme op\u00e8re un d\u00e9placement vers un nouvel espace de tension pour le mod\u00e8le am\u00e9ricain&nbsp;: le sud, cette zone frontali\u00e8re au c\u0153ur des interrogations identitaires.
