Il suffit d\u2019\u00e0 peine quelques pages pour savoir que l\u2019on ne sera pas d\u00e9\u00e7u, tant le texte d\u00e9borde de virtuosit\u00e9 et de sensibilit\u00e9<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"212\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Meyer-212x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2578\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Meyer-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Meyer-723x1024.jpg 723w, https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Meyer-768x1087.jpg 768w, https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Meyer-1085x1536.jpg 1085w, https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Meyer-1447x2048.jpg 1447w, https:\/\/jclebrun.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Meyer.jpg 1608w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 212px) 100vw, 212px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quelque part au c\u0153ur du livre il est question d\u2019un \u00ab&nbsp;<em>Orient, o\u00f9 l\u2019on jouait de la musique fran\u00e7aise sur des pianos l\u00e9g\u00e8rement d\u00e9saccord\u00e9s, mais bouleversants de v\u00e9rit\u00e9<\/em>. \u00bb&nbsp; Produire une telle phrase, c\u2019est en m\u00eame temps se d\u00e9voiler et r\u00e9v\u00e9ler jusqu\u2019\u00e0 quel point peut agir l\u2019impr\u00e9gnation proustienne. Et que dire des deux protagonistes dont la relation constitue l\u2019architecture du roman&nbsp;? &nbsp;Samuel Pakhchelian, un pianiste prodige qui depuis dix ans s\u2019est mis \u00e0 distance du monde &nbsp;en refusant d\u2019honorer un r\u00e9cital en forme de d\u00e9fi, l\u2019ensemble des \u0153uvres pour piano de Claude Debussy, au Carnegie Hall de New York. Et Agatha Karl, une discr\u00e8te dame \u00e2g\u00e9e tr\u00e8s classe, qui se r\u00e9v\u00e8le \u00eatre une romanci\u00e8re \u00e0 succ\u00e8s. Ces deux-l\u00e0 se rencontrent un jour sur la terrasse d\u2019un ancien h\u00f4tel dans une station baln\u00e9aire qu\u2019on chercherait en vain sur une carte, Balbec, tout droit sortie d\u2019 \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>A la recherche du temps perdu<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp;\u00bb C\u2019\u00e9tait sur sa plage que Samuel passait les \u00e9t\u00e9s de son enfance. On pourrait ajouter que la vieille dame ressemble \u00e0 s\u2019y m\u00e9prendre \u00e0 sa propre grand-m\u00e8re, qui contribua \u00e0 faire de lui un&nbsp; pianiste de r\u00e9putation internationale. D\u2019entr\u00e9e de jeu quelque chose se met en place, qui noue r\u00e9alit\u00e9 et fiction, rem\u00e9moration de l\u2019enfance et r\u00e9manence des &nbsp;lectures, litt\u00e9rature et musique. Le dispositif fonctionne \u00e0 merveille.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Un permanent jeu de reflets qui donne au r\u00e9cit sa puissante dimension po\u00e9tique<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Samuel s\u2019appr\u00eate \u00e0 faire son retour sur sc\u00e8ne, pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment \u00e0 Balbec. C\u2019est dans ce haut-lieu de l\u2019invention litt\u00e9raire qu\u2019il rencontre la dame aux cheveux blancs, sorte de double de la grand-m\u00e8re aujourd\u2019hui disparue. Et qu\u2019il apprend bient\u00f4t que, dans les livres de celle-ci, un certain \u00ab&nbsp;<em>enfant aux yeux gris<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb occupe une position centrale. Impossible pour lui de ne pas se reconna\u00eetre dans ce personnage qui, comme lui, venait \u00e0 Balbec en colonie de vacances et lui ressemble en tous points. Dans les livres d\u2019Agatha Karl c\u2019est le pass\u00e9 de Samuel qui resurgit. A moins que ce soit celui-ci qui ressemble au personnage litt\u00e9raire imagin\u00e9 par celle-l\u00e0. Renaud Meyer ne cesse d\u2019entretenir l\u2019ambigu\u00eft\u00e9, dans une mani\u00e8re de permanent jeu de reflets qui donne au r\u00e9cit sa puissante dimension po\u00e9tique. Un authentique tour de force. Les livres \u00ab&nbsp;<em>nous d\u00e9livrent des pesanteurs du monde<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb d\u00e9clare un troisi\u00e8me personnage qui plus loin est entr\u00e9 en sc\u00e8ne. Une certaine Albertine, libraire de son \u00e9tat et grande lectrice d\u2019Agatha Karl. En r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>Albertine disparue<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb la voici donc qui appara\u00eet. Et qui bient\u00f4t se r\u00e9v\u00e8le elle-m\u00eame en romanci\u00e8re. Le jeu de r\u00e9f\u00e9rences ne cesse ainsi de s\u2019enrichir d\u2019\u00e9pisodes nouveaux, pour le plus grand plaisir du lecteur, qui finit par se laisser emporter dans un flot narratif dont les sources, r\u00e9elles ou fictives, finissent par se brouiller.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Un chef-d\u2019\u0153uvre de <em>variations<\/em> multiples<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Et cependant Renaud Meyer toujours s\u2019arrange pour ne pas perdre de vue une mani\u00e8re de moles originels, auxquels sont attach\u00e9es les destin\u00e9es de Samuel Pakhchelian et d\u2019Agatha Karl. D\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9 l\u2019Arm\u00e9nie, de l\u2019autre \u00ab&nbsp;<em>ce que l\u2019on&nbsp; appelait alors la Cochinchine<\/em>.&nbsp;\u00bb Le monde r\u00e9el \u00e0 l\u2019horizon d\u2019un territoire qui semble n\u2019\u00eatre fait que de litt\u00e9rature et d\u2019\u00e9chos musicaux, ainsi que chez le grand Marcel. On ne s\u2019\u00e9tonnera pas de croiser ici une certaine Anna Goldberg, dans ce qui se pr\u00e9sente tel un chef-d\u2019\u0153uvre de <em>variations<\/em> multiples. Dans un ultime chapitre qui agit comme une inversion de perspective Renaud Meyer cl\u00f4t sa fiction en beaut\u00e9, glissant un dernier miroir \u00e0 la suite de tous ceux qu\u2019il n\u2019a cess\u00e9 d\u2019empiler. Donnant \u00e0 \u00ab&nbsp;<strong><em>Retour \u00e0 Balbec<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb une remarquable \u00e9paisseur finale. Et incitant \u00e0 en reprendre la lecture sous un nouvel angle.
