Un roman saisissant, au sens propre du terme. Par l\u2019audace de sa th\u00e9matique et la tonalit\u00e9 d\u00e9capante de son \u00e9criture. Avec comme lieu unique une tr\u00e8s banale ferme n\u00e9erlandaise derri\u00e8re un polder, comme personnages centraux le fermier sans relief et sa fille, et comme seule action r\u00e9p\u00e9titive au fil des jours le soin apport\u00e9 au b\u00e9tail en m\u00eame temps que la lecture de la Bible, \u00e0 la fois chambre d\u2019\u00e9cho et justification de chaque acte de leurs existences. Tout ce qui contribua \u00e0 la r\u00e9v\u00e9lation d\u2019une voix authentiquement nouvelle dans la litt\u00e9rature europ\u00e9enne, \u00e9v\u00e9nement suffisamment rare pour m\u00e9riter d\u2019\u00eatre soulign\u00e9.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00ab&nbsp;<strong>Mon bel animal<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb, paru aux Pays-Bas en 2020, vient aujourd\u2019hui confirmer, dans la traduction une nouvelle fois impeccable de Daniel Cunin, la position de tout premier plan de Marieke Lucas Rijneveld dans le paysage litt\u00e9raire du continent. Toujours une ferme et ses bovins, toujours un fermier et sa fille. Auxquels vient d\u00e9sormais s\u2019ajouter la figure d\u2019un douteux v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire, qui tient ici le r\u00f4le du narrateur, en un long monologue dont on comprend peu \u00e0 peu la circonstance. Celui-ci s\u2019y adresse, la tutoyant, \u00e0 une \u00ab&nbsp;<em>adorable<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb \u00e9galement appel\u00e9e son \u00ab&nbsp;<em>bel animal<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, en une mani\u00e8re de longue confession, ou de supplique, s\u2019\u00e9tirant sur 42 chapitres. Le flux de sa parole ainsi se d\u00e9verse, rarement interrompu par des points, tout au plus rythm\u00e9 par des reprises de souffle que mat\u00e9rialise une pl\u00e9thore de virgules et points-virgules, sans le moindre retour \u00e0 la ligne. Cela se passe \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 2005, la date figure en ouverture du r\u00e9cit. Quelques pages plus loin il est question de \u00ab&nbsp;<em>magistrats<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb auxquels l\u2019homme doit d\u00e9sormais rendre des comptes. Peu \u00e0 peu, alors qu\u2019il s\u2019est lanc\u00e9 dans le r\u00e9cit de sa relation particuli\u00e8re avec son \u00ab&nbsp;<em>adorable<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, la situation se pr\u00e9cise&nbsp;: c\u2019est d\u2019une cellule d\u2019un \u00e9tablissement p\u00e9nitentiaire que le narrateur r\u00e9dige ce qui ressemble de plus en plus \u00e0 un plaidoyer pour tenter de justifier ce qui s\u2019\u00e9tait pass\u00e9 pendant quatre ans entre lui et la fille du fermier, aujourd\u2019hui \u00e2g\u00e9e de 14 ans. A moins qu\u2019il ne s\u2019agisse aussi d\u2019une n\u00e9cessaire mise au net pour lui-m\u00eame.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>L\u2019ange et la b\u00eate<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ce qui se d\u00e9voile, qu\u2019on a pu tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t subodorer, c\u2019est l\u2019histoire d\u2019une manipulation perverse et d\u2019abus sexuels r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9s sous le pr\u00e9texte, fallacieux ou r\u00e9el, d\u2019une passion entre un adulte de 49 ans et une adolescente. Mais ce qui ressort dans les faits, c\u2019est le plan syst\u00e9matiquement mis en \u0153uvre par le v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire pour donner \u00e0 sa victime le sentiment d\u2019\u00eatre actrice de leur relation. D\u2019une froideur clinique, le texte de Marieke Lucas Rijneveld n\u2019omet aucun d\u00e9tail, y compris les plus r\u00e9vulsants, de ce lent d\u00e9tournement. Il renvoie \u00e9galement a deux paysages intimes s\u00e9rieusement perturb\u00e9s, dont on pourrait imaginer des psychiatres faire leur miel&nbsp;: si la Bible et la religion r\u00e9form\u00e9e apparaissent omnipr\u00e9sentes, Freud, avec sa r\u00e9flexion sur la libido et le tabou, ne cesse de se profiler en non moins permanente r\u00e9f\u00e9rence.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On plonge en effet dans deux pass\u00e9s \u00e9galement en vrac. Du c\u00f4t\u00e9 de l\u2019homme, par ailleurs mari\u00e9 et p\u00e8re irr\u00e9prochable de deux gar\u00e7ons, une enfance sans p\u00e8re et une m\u00e8re qui pratiquait sur lui des attouchements incestueux. Du c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la jeune fille, le d\u00e9part de la m\u00e8re, la mort accidentelle du fr\u00e8re, la fuite dans d\u2019incroyables fantasmes o\u00f9 tout vient \u00e0 se m\u00e9langer&nbsp;en une sorte de sulfureux magma : la parole biblique port\u00e9e par le pasteur local et la chanson anglo-saxonne (notamment Kurt Cobain) dont elle est une fan, sa pr\u00e9tendue responsabilit\u00e9 dans la destruction des tours jumelles de New York, sa proximit\u00e9 avec Hitler, parce que n\u00e9 comme elle un 20 avril, son obsession de s\u2019\u00e9lancer dans les airs pour voler et son d\u00e9sir secret d\u2019avoir un \u00ab&nbsp;<em>p\u00e9nis d\u2019angelot<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, il n&rsquo;est pas insignifiant que dans ses imaginations Freud lui rende fr\u00e9quemment visite. De ce v\u00e9ritable fatras mental, gu\u00e8re \u00e9loign\u00e9 de la folie, elle tire la conviction qu\u2019elle-m\u00eame figure une sorte d\u2019\u00e9lue. Son pr\u00e9dateur en jouera \u00e0 sa guise. A la ferme, puis dans la fourgonnette qu\u2019il aura am\u00e9nag\u00e9e avec un matelas.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">C\u2019est assur\u00e9ment un nouveau tr\u00e8s grand texte que propose ici Marieke Lucas Rijneveld, d\u2019une continuelle \u00e2pret\u00e9 et d\u2019une vertigineuse profondeur. S\u2019attachant \u00e0 deux terribles perturbations et allant remuer loin dans des intimit\u00e9s en d\u00e9sh\u00e9rence.
