Il avait alors 52 ans. En fait, pour les connaisseurs, il s\u2019\u00e9tait cependant d\u00e9j\u00e0 illustr\u00e9, depuis la fin des ann\u00e9es 1990, comme l\u2019un des novellistes les plus talentueux de l\u2019\u00e9poque. Mais le genre court n\u2019est gu\u00e8re pris\u00e9 par ici, en d\u00e9pit des grands exemples de Prosper M\u00e9rim\u00e9e, Guy de Maupassant, Gustave Flaubert, George Sand ou Anatole France, et, plus pr\u00e8s de nous, Didier Daeninckx, Georges-Olivier Ch\u00e2teaureynaud ou Annie Saumont. Une dommageable exception fran\u00e7aise, \u00e0 l\u2019inverse de ce que l\u2019on peut observer dans les pays germaniques et anglo-saxons. C\u2019est aussi ce qui explique l\u2019effet de surprise que provoqua ce premier roman, alors que celui-ci venait tout bonnement s\u2019inscrire dans la continuit\u00e9 d\u2019une \u0153uvre \u00ab&nbsp;<em>signifiante et populaire<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, pour reprendre le propos de son \u00e9ditrice du \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>Diable Vauvert&nbsp;<\/strong>\u00bb Marion Mazauric. Il avait ensuite fait para\u00eetre dans la m\u00eame maison le recueil de nouvelles \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>Macadam<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb (2015) et les trois romans \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>Le reste de leur vie<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb (2015), \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>La Fissure<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb (2018) et \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>Malamute<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb (2021). Cependant que \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>Le Liseur<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb \u00e9tait traduit dans 45 pays et qu\u2019une adaptation cin\u00e9matographique se pr\u00e9parait. Mais le 5 d\u00e9cembre 2021 l\u2019on apprenait la disparition de Jean-Paul Didierlaurent, alors qu\u2019il travaillait sur les textes aujourd\u2019hui r\u00e9unis.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Dernier textes, en forme de legs, d\u2019un \u00e9crivain trop t\u00f4t disparu<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Il nous est donc donn\u00e9 d\u2019entendre pour une derni\u00e8re fois cette langue qui, tel un alliage pr\u00e9cieux, instille dans les mots du quotidien une dimension qu\u2019il n\u2019est pas abusif de qualifier de po\u00e9tique. En quinze textes, v\u00e9ritable condens\u00e9 de son art du bref, Jean-Paul Didierlaurent nous revient. L\u2019on y retrouve, page 171, \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>Le Liseur<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb, distingu\u00e9 par deux jurys en 2005 et cellule-m\u00e8re du roman \u00e9ponyme. Le h\u00e9ros s\u2019appelait alors Gaston Galtier, G\u00e9g\u00e9, il deviendrait ensuite Guylain Vignolles, en contrep\u00e8terie douce-am\u00e8re. Il attendait son train matinal dans la gare de Pantin, banlieue &nbsp;ouvri\u00e8re de l\u2019est parisien, quand son alter ego romanesque se retrouvait sur la branche sud du RER. En allusion \u00e0 la gentrification en cours&nbsp;? Mais autour de lui, l\u2019\u00e9coutant leur faire la lecture de pages disparates ayant r\u00e9chapp\u00e9 du pilon d\u2019un \u00e9diteur, de semblables \u00ab&nbsp;invisibles&nbsp;\u00bb. La litt\u00e9rature appara\u00eet toujours partie prenante de la vie. La nouvelle s\u2019en tenait \u00e0 cette situation initiale. Le roman y ajoutait une cl\u00e9 USB trouv\u00e9e par hasard&nbsp;: le r\u00e9cit au quotidien de Julie, dame pipi dans un centre commercial. Une mani\u00e8re d\u2019extension du r\u00e9cit vers davantage encore de r\u00e9alit\u00e9 en m\u00eame temps que d\u2019\u00e9chapp\u00e9es po\u00e9tiques. L\u2019on peut ainsi voir combien, en l\u2019espace de neuf ann\u00e9es, s\u2019\u00e9tait \u00e9toff\u00e9 et enrichi l\u2019art de Jean-Paul Didierlaurent. De \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>Bec et ongles<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb, l\u2019on retiendra \u00e9galement le bouleversant \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>P\u00e9n\u00e9lope<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb (2021), l\u2019un des tout derniers textes de l\u2019\u00e9crivain. Une petite dizaine de pages, avec pour quasi unique personnage, une veille dame qui, semblable \u00e0 son homonyme de \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>L\u2019Odyss\u00e9e<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb, tricote en boucle, non pas pour Ulysse mais pour son mari Laurent. Pour d\u2019une certaine mani\u00e8re, ainsi que le h\u00e9ros antique, le faire revenir. Non pas d\u2019une navigation \u00e9pique loin d\u2019Ithaque, mais du naufrage du navire de p\u00eache sur lequel celui-ci travaillait, \u00e0 vingt milles de la France&nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;<em>P\u00e9n\u00e9lope n\u2019\u00e9coute que le cliquetis des aiguilles qui s\u2019entrechoquent. Comme \u00e0 chaque fois depuis huit ans, lorsque le pullover sera termin\u00e9, elle le d\u00e9tricotera et puis recommencera. Faire et d\u00e9faire, entretenir l\u2019espoir au gr\u00e9 des pelotes d\u00e9roul\u00e9es.<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb Ailleurs il sera question d\u2019un covoitureur secr\u00e8tement amoureux, d\u2019une bo\u00eete aux lettres survivant au temps, d\u2019un&nbsp; enfant albinos, d\u2019un singulier fossoyeur. Et,&nbsp;<em>last but not least<\/em>, dans la nouvelle d\u2019ouverture \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>Mar\u00e9e noire<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00bb, v\u00e9ritable mise en bouche, d\u2019un homme litt\u00e9ralement submerg\u00e9&nbsp;par la masse couleur d\u2019encre qui envahit son appartement. A y regarder de plus pr\u00e8s, de minuscules formes composent la p\u00e2te d\u00e9ferlante, des caract\u00e8res d\u2019imprimerie \u00e9chapp\u00e9s de tous les livres qu\u2019il n\u2019a pas lus, \u00ab&nbsp;<em>tomb\u00e9s en cascade sur le sol, \u00e9claboussant de voyelles et de consonnes le bas de [son] pantalon<\/em>.&nbsp;\u00bb Magnifique parabole de la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 pressante de la lecture et de &nbsp;l\u2019\u00e9criture.
